Welcome to Park City, Bus Drivers, Here’s 250 Square Feet to Live In

City Hall last week won a permit to build living quarters on the grounds of the Public Works Building, the municipality’s first-ever housing project that will be put up solely for staffers.

The 13-unit building will be meant as housing for people who work in transit, likely bus drivers. The units, which will be between 200 square feet and 250 square feet each, will offer a kitchen and a bathroom. There will be a common area on each floor of the three-story building with a washer and dryer, a closet and a seating area.

Brooks Robinson, the senior transportation planner for City Hall, said the units will serve as seasonal housing. He said a budget for the construction has not been set, but City Hall already has secured $1.5 million in federal grants for the project. He said the price is expected to be less than $1.5 million. Robinson said officials want to break ground on the project this year and complete the construction by late 2013.

City Hall has housed 12 or 13 bus drivers in the former Park Avenue fire station in Old Town for several ski seasons. Click here to read the entire article.
